Recap

Blue Jays 5, Red Sox 0: Adeiny Hechavarria homered and Brandon Morrow tossed six shutout innings as host Toronto salvaged the finale of the three-game series.

The Blue Jays broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh when Omar Vizquel singled in a run with two outs and Hechavarria followed with a two-run shot to left field off Jon Lester (9-12), who allowed just one hit over the first six innings.

Morrow scattered four hits with one walk for Toronto, which won for the third time in its last 11 home games. Brandon Lyon (3-2) recorded the final two outs in the seventh inning to earn the win.

Boston, which was seeking its first three-game winning streak since July 28-31, had runners at the corners with one out in the eighth before Darren Oliver induced a Cody Ross inning-ending double play.

The Blue Jays extended their lead with two runs in the eighth on RBI singles by Colby Rasmus and Moises Sierra. Toronto won the season series against Boston for the first time since 2006 with an 11-7 record.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Blue Jays 1B Edwin Encarnacion (sore toe) and C Jeff Mathis (flu) were both scratched from the starting lineup. … Boston 3B Pedro Ciriaco is 14-for-14 in stolen base attempts this season after stealing second in the seventh inning on Sunday. … Vizquel went 2-for-4 and is one short of tying Babe Ruth for 41st on the all-time hits list with 2,872.
