Recap

Indians 5, Red Sox 3: Ubaldo Jimenez struck out a season-high 10 in six-plus innings and host Cleveland won its second straight contest following an 11-game losing streak.

Second baseman Jason Donald, promoted from the minors earlier Thursday, homered and drove in two runs as the Indians sent Boston to its third straight loss.

Jimenez (9-11) halted a personal four-game losing streak, giving up three runs on eight hits. Tony Sipp and Vinnie Pestano each pitched a scoreless inning before Chris Perez worked a perfect ninth for his 30th save.

Carlos Santana had a pair of hits and extended his RBI streak to five games for Cleveland, which last won back-to-back games July 23-24.

Red Sox left-hander Felix Doubront (10-6) retired 10 straight before unraveling in the fifth. He allowed four runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings as Boston lost for the seventh time in nine games.

Adrian Gonzalez's two-run homer in the fourth extended his hitting streak to nine games and Dustin Pedroia singled in a run in the fifth to give Boston a 3-1 lead.

Cleveland responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, getting a run-scoring double from Asdrubal Cabrera, an RBI single by Santana and a sacrifice fly by Michael Brantley to go ahead 4-3.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Indians fired pitching coach Scott Radinsky and replaced him with Ruben Niebla on an interim basis. Cleveland's starters went 0-8 with a 10.44 ERA during the team's 11-game skid. ... Gonzalez has 12 RBIs during his hitting streak and has driven in 47 runs in 60 games since June 1. ... The Indians released OF Johnny Damon and RHP Jeremy Accardo on Thursday. They are expected to do the same with RHP Derek Lowe on Friday unless they can work out a trade for him. ... Red Sox DH David Ortiz (Achilles heel) will run the bases Friday and, barring any setbacks, could rejoin the team Sunday. He has not played since July 16 ... The Indians placed DH Travis Hafner on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with inflammation in his lower back. Donald was called up from Triple-A Columbus to take Hafner's roster spot and wound up starting when 2B Jason Kipnis was scratched with a stiff neck. ... Boston CF Jacoby Ellsbury stole three bases, matching his total from his first 25 games.
