Recap

Red Sox 9, Braves 4: Cody Ross homered twice and teamed up with Adrian Gonzalez to hit back-to-back blasts as Boston won the rubber match of the three-game series at Fenway Park.

Boston’s Kevin Youkilis returned to the lineup Sunday and went 2-for-4 with an RBI while starting at third base, in what would be a Fenway farewell. Youkilis had been the subject of trade rumors and did not start the previous three games, and it was announced after the game that the Red Sox dealt him to the Chicago White Sox for right-hander Zach Stewart and utilityman Brent Lillibridge.

The Red Sox hit three homers off Atlanta starter Mike Minor (3-6), winning for the ninth time in 11 games. Aaron Cook, who was activated to start for the disabled Clay Buchholz, benefited from Boston’s four-run fourth inning to get his first victory as a member of the Red Sox.

Ross belted a three-run homer to left in the fourth off Minor. Gonzalez followed with his sixth homer of the season two pitches later, giving Boston a 4-0 advantage.

Atlanta cut the lead to 4-3 in the fifth. Eric Hinske tripled to deep center, scoring Jason Heyward and Andrelton Simmons. Hinske scored on Cook’s throwing error, but that is as close as the Braves would get in losing for the ninth time in 13 games.

Will Middlebrooks brought home a run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly. Ross followed with his second homer of the game and 11th of the season in the fifth, a solo shot to give the Red Sox a 7-3 lead. Ross finished with five RBIs.

Cook (1-1) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits in five innings. Minor gave up six hits and seven runs (four earned) with three walks and four strikeouts. The three homers allowed gives Minor 18 for the season, most in the National League.

Heyward went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, extended his hitting streak to 10 games. Heyward hit his 11th homer of the season in the sixth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Youkilis received a hug from pinch runner Nick Punto when he was lifted after reaching on a triple in his final at-bat in the seventh inning. Other Red Sox were standing at the top of the dugout. … The Braves head home to open a three-game series with Arizona on Tuesday. Boston begins a three-game home series with Toronto on Monday.
