Recap

Athletics 5, Red Sox 3:
Rookie right-hander Jarrod Parker pitched 6 2/3 solid innings to record his first major league victory and Jemile Weeks drove in two runs as Oakland registered a rare win in Boston.

Parker (1-0), the ninth overall pick in the 2007 draft by Arizona, allowed four hits and shut down the major league's second-highest scoring team in his third major league start.

The Athletics had lost three straight and eight of their previous 10 games at Fenway Park, and seven of their last eight overall to the Red Sox.

Weeks' two-run single highlighted a four-run fourth inning and gave Oakland a 4-0 lead. He came around on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.

Yoenis Cespedes drove in Weeks with a double to put the Athletics ahead 1-0 in the first and Cliff Pennington got the big fourth inning started with an RBI double.

Boston's Felix Doubront (1-1) allowed five runs, six hits and struck out eight in four innings.

The Red Sox loaded the bases with one out in the ninth against Grant Balfour and Mike Aviles delivered a two-run single to make it 5-3. Balfour was replaced by Jordan Norberto, who struck out pinch hitter Lars Anderson and retired Dustin Pedroia on a fielder's choice to earn his first career save.

Cody Ross had two doubles among his three hits and David Ortiz had an RBI groundout in the fourth for Boston, which lost for only the second time in its last nine games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Oakland entered Tuesday with a major league-worst .209 batting average and has scored an American League-low 78 runs in 25 games. ... Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis missed his third straight game with a stiff back. ... Parker came to Oakland in the Trevor Cahill trade during the off-season. His career ERA is 0.98.
