Red Sox 12, Rays 2: Josh Beckett rebounded from a rough first start and scattered five hits in eight innings as Boston kicked off Fenway Park's 100th anniversary season with its eighth straight home-opening victory.

Beckett (1-1), who allowed five home runs in a 10-0 loss at Detroit on Saturday, improved to 4-0 in six home openers with the Red Sox.

Boston's Kelly Shoppach, a .224 career hitter, went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs against his former team.

Red Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury left the game in the fourth inning after trying to break up a double play. Ellsbury upended Tampa Bay shortstop Reid Brignac, who landed hard on Ellsbury's right shoulder.

The Red Sox reached David Price (1-1) for three runs in the third inning. After Adrian Gonzalez delivered an RBI single with the bases loaded and none out, Kevin Youkilis hit a sacrifice fly and David Ortiz made it 3-1 with a check-swing infield hit.

Ellsbury's RBI single off reliever Burke Badenhop in the fourth inning drove in Shoppach, who doubled with one out. Ellsbury had two hits.

Boston blew the game open when it sent 14 batters to the plate and scored eight runs in the eighth. The inning was highlighted by Shoppach's two-run double, and two-run singles by Ryan Sweeney and Youkilis.

Ben Zobrist had two hits, including a solo homer in the ninth inning for Tampa Bay.
