Orioles 10, Mariners 4: Matt Wieters homered and had three RBIs, Nate McLouth also went deep and Adam Jones scored four times as visiting Baltimore moved within one-half game of the New York Yankees in the American League East.
The Orioles scored seven runs in the first two innings and Chris Tillman (8-2) pitched six strong innings as Baltimore increased its lead for the AL’s second wild card to three games over the Los Angeles Angels.
Tillman allowed one run and three hits in six innings in his third strong outing against Seattle this season. He has allowed only two earned runs and 13 hits in 21 2/3 innings against the Mariners.
McLouth led off the game with a homer as Baltimore scored three first-inning runs against Hector Noesi (2-12). The Orioles added four runs in the second on a double by J.J. Hardy, a single by Jones, a fielder’s choice by Wieters and a double by Mark Reynolds.
John Jaso hit a two-run homer and Michael Saunders and Eric Thames hit solo shots for the Mariners.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Wieters matched his career high with his 22nd homer, a solo shot in the fourth. … Noesi was charged with seven runs (six earned) and eight hits in 1 1/3 innings while losing his ninth consecutive decision. … Baltimore racked up 15 hits, with Jones, McLouth and Wieters having three apiece.
