Orioles 4, White Sox 3: Nate McLouth hit a two-run homer in the eighth as host Baltimore picked up its third straight win.

Mark Reynolds drew a one-out walk in the eighth in front of McLouth, who got a 1-0 fastball from Brett Myers (2-2) and belted it out to deep right. McLouth drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to start his first three-RBI game since joining the Orioles.

Pedro Strop (5-2) picked up the win in relief and Jim Johnson worked the ninth for his major league-leading 40th save for Baltimore, which pulled back into a tie for a wild card spot in the American League.

Chicago, which had taken the lead in the top of the eighth on Adam Dunn’s RBI single, had their lead in the AL Central slip to two games over the idle Detroit Tigers.

The Orioles struck first on Lew Ford’s solo home run in the second. The opposite-field drive just inside the right field foul pole on a 3-2 pitch marked Ford’s first major-league blast since July 29, 2007, when he was with the Minnesota Twins.

Wei-Yin Chen held onto the one-run edge until the sixth, when his own error allowed Dewayne Wise to reach leading off the inning. Kevin Youkilis followed and lined a first-pitch fastball into the stands in left to give the White Sox a 2-1 edge.

But Francisco Liriano could not hold that lead and allowed the first two runners in the bottom of the frame to reach before being pulled. Jesse Crain came on and walked two straight to force in the tying run before escaping the jam.

Chicago LF Dayan Viciedo (shoulder) returned to the starting lineup after missing the last two games. … White Sox RHP Gavin Floyd (elbow) had an MRI reveal a strain but no structural damage. He will miss his scheduled start on Friday. … Baltimore LHP Joe Saunders, who was acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend, will be added to the active roster on Tuesday and is expected to make his first start on Wednesday or Thursday.
