Rays 10, Orioles 1:
Desmond Jennings kicked off a five-run first inning with a home run and David Price coasted through seven frames en route to his major league-leading 14th win as visiting Tampa Bay crushed Baltimore.

Jose Lobaton added a three-run blast, Ryan Roberts hit a two-run homer in his Tampa debut and Elliot Johnson singled in a pair for the Rays, who eclipsed their run total from the previous four games combined and pulled into a tie for second place in the American League East.

Jennings turned on the first pitch of the game from right-hander Miguel Gonzalez and blasted his seventh home run into the stands in left. Gonzalez allowed an RBI single to Carlos Pena with two outs in the frame and hit Roberts to load the bases before Lobaton was hit by a pitch to force in another run and Johnson capped the big inning with his two-run single.

Price (14-4) surrendered an RBI single to J.J. Hardy in the bottom of the first but shut the Orioles down the rest of the way. The All-Star left-hander allowed seven hits and did not walk a batter while striking out 10.

Gonzalez (2-2) ended a string of seven straight quality starts by Baltimore pitching, getting hammered for seven runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Roberts, who was added to the roster earlier in the day after being acquired from Arizona, ended Gonzalez’s night with a drive into the Orioles bullpen.

Lobaton made it a 10-1 edge in the fifth with his first career homer. The rookie catcher took a Matt Lindstrom offering into the courtyard beyond right field.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr.’s mother was abducted from her home by an armed gunman on Tuesday and was found unharmed on Wednesday. … Rays 3B Evan Longoria (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment on Thursday at Triple-A Durham. … Tampa Bay designated DH Hideki Matsui for assignment to clear a roster spot for Roberts, who was picked up from the Arizona Diamondbacks.
