Recap
Mariners 6, Orioles 3: Casper Wells laced a three-run double with two outs in the seventh inning as host Seattle rallied to beat Baltimore in the opener of a three-game series.
Miguel Olivo and Dustin Ackley hit back-to-back homers in the eighth as the Mariners handed the Orioles their sixth loss in seven games.
Seattle trailed 3-1 and loaded the bases in the seventh against Jason Hammel (8-4) on two walks and a single before Wells unloaded the bases with a liner into the right-center field gap.
Steve Delabar (2-1) struck out three in two hitless innings of relief. Shawn Kelley fanned two while hurling a perfect eighth and Tom Wilhelmsen worked the ninth for his seventh save and 16th consecutive scoreless appearance dating back to May 23.
The Orioles took their two-run lead on a mammoth three-run homer by Chris Davis that landed deep in the right-center field seats in the fourth.
Brendan Ryan gave the Mariners a 1-0 lead with a second-inning single.
Hammel allowed four runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out eight and walked two.
Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma allowed three runs and three hits in five innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Seattle had scored just eight runs in nine games before Monday’s output, which was its highest since a 14-10 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 20. … Orioles third baseman Wilson Betemit was hitless in four at-bats to end an 11-game hitting streak. … Mariners outfielder Michael Saunders missed his fourth consecutive game due to illness. … Hammel is one of five candidates for the final spot on the American League All-Star team. Fan balloting determines who earns that honor.
