Orioles 2, Rays 1
: Brian Matusz outdueled Jeremy Hellickson and Endy Chavez homered as visiting Baltimore snapped a six-game slide and jumped back into a tie for first place in the American League East.

Matusz (5-5) allowed a run on two hits in 7 1/3 innings while striking out seven and walking three for the Orioles.

Hellickson (4-2) was charged with two runs - one earned - and four hits in 6 2/3 frames while striking out eight for the Rays, who have dropped four of five.

The Tampa Bay defense, which ranks 13th in the AL in fielding percentage, let Hellickson down in the seventh. Mark Reynolds reached with a one-out double and moved to third when Ryan Flaherty reached on catcher’s interference by Jose Lobaton.

The Rays brought in Jake McGee to face Robert Andino, who sent a ground ball to third. Drew Sutton charged to make the play but threw the ball away, allowing Reynolds to score the go-ahead run.

Baltimore struck first in the third, when Chavez ripped a 2-1 pitch into the right-field seats for his first homer.

Tampa Bay manufactured the tying run in the fifth. Sean Rodriguez led off with a double, moved up on a groundout and scored on Sutton’s fielder’s choice, sliding headfirst to beat the tag.

Jim Johnson worked a perfect ninth for his 17th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hellickson has one win in his last seven starts despite posting a 2.60 ERA in that span. … The Orioles are the only team in the AL worse than Tampa Bay in fielding percentage, and escaped damage in the bottom of the eighth despite an error as Pedro Strop got Ben Zobrist to ground into an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded. … Baltimore on Saturday designated IF/OF Bill Hall for assignment and acquired 1B/OF Steve Pearce, who had been playing for the New York Yankees' Triple-A affiliate.
