Recap

Orioles 5, Royals 3: J.J. Hardy's two-run single highlighted a three-run seventh inning as visiting Baltimore completed an abbreviated two-game sweep by rallying past Kansas City.

Adam Jones homered for the third straight contest and Brian Matusz (3-4) tossed six solid innings for the Orioles, who won their third in a row and sixth in eight outings.

After Chris Davis tied the game with a single to center in the seventh, Hardy stepped up with the bases loaded and plated Davis and Luis Exposito to give Baltimore a 5-3 lead.

Matusz overcame a rocky third inning to record a quality start. A pair of relievers worked a scoreless inning apiece to bridge the gap to Jim Johnson, who retired the side in the ninth to convert his 22nd consecutive save opportunity dating back to last season. He has 14 saves in 2012.

Humberto Quintero ripped a two-run double and Johnny Giavotella had an RBI single in the three-run third inning for the Royals, who dropped to 4-15 at home this season.

Luke Hochevar (3-4) permitted four runs on seven hits in six innings to fall to 1-5 in his career versus the Orioles.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The scoreboard at Kauffman Stadium began to smoulder, but fire department officials were on hand before fixing the issue. ... Kansas City's Mike Moustakas failed to reach base for the first time in 24 games. ... Hochevar has struggled in front of the home fans this season, posting an 0-3 mark.
