Yankees 2, Orioles 1: Eric Chavez hit a two-run homer and Hiroki Kuroda pitched seven solid innings to lead host New York.

The victory was the Yankees’ fourth straight against the Orioles this season and spoiled Baltimore manager Buck Showalter’s attempt at his 1,000th career win.

Mark Teixeira led off the bottom of the second with a single before Chavez belted a one-out blast to right-center field off Jason Hammel (3-1) for his third homer of the season to give New York a lead.

Kuroda (2-3) gave up just one run and four hits. He struck out three and walked one. David Robertson struck out the side in the eighth and Mariano Rivera induced Nick Markakis to hit into a game-ending double play for his fifth save and the 73rd of his career against the Orioles.

Baltimore pushed across a run in the top of the second when Adam Jones walked, advanced to third on a single by Matt Wieters and scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Davis.

The Orioles had a chance to tie the score in the seventh when Kuroda’s pitch bounced away from Russell Martin with two out in the seventh. Markakis attempted to score from third but Martin scrambled to the ball quickly and flipped it to Kuroda to tag out Markakis.

Hammel allowed two runs and five hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked two.

Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold went hitless in four at-bats to snap a 14-game hitting streak. … Teixeira had gone hitless in five of six games before going 2-for-3. … Baltimore’s Mark Reynolds went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and has fanned 10 times in 23 career at-bats against Kuroda. … Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher (hamstring) isn’t expected to return until later in the week at the earliest.
