Recap
Jacoby Ellsbury slammed a three-run homer in the top of the 14th inning and the Boston Red Sox snapped a four-game losing streak with a 7-4 victory over the New York Yankees on Sunday night.
Ellsbury's dramatic blast off Scott Proctor (0-2), his 31st of the season and third of the day, averted a doubleheader sweep and kept the Red Sox one game ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL wild-card chase with three games to play.
Franklin Morales (1-1) pitched two innings for the win and Felix Doubront earned his first save as Boston's bullpen turned in eight innings of one-hit ball to give the Red Sox just their sixth win in 24 games this month. The Red Sox, who lost the opener 6-2, outhit New York 15-6 in the nightcap.
Ellsbury, who hit a pair of homers in the opening game of Sunday's twin bill, became the first player in franchise history to reach 30 homers and 30 stolen bases in a season.
The Red Sox will open a three-game series Monday night at Baltimore, which took three of four in Boston last week.
The Yankees now head to Tampa Bay, which is looking to become the first team in major league history to earn a playoff berth after trailing by nine games in September.
