Recap
Mike Carp hit a grand slam and had five RBIs in Seattle's nine-run third inning, leading the Mariners to a 12-6 win over the host Cleveland Indians on Monday in a game that was called by rain after seven innings.
The game was stopped before the top of the eighth inning and called after a 44-minute delay.
The contest, which was a makeup of a May 15 postponement, was played in a driving rain - but nothing could stop the Mariners' bats.
Seattle trailed 4-2 entering the third, but sent 13 men to the plate in its biggest inning of the season. Carp's RBI double off David Huff (2-6) cut the lead to 4-3. His grand slam off Chad Durbin landed in the second deck in right field and put the Mariners ahead 11-4.
Cleveland's pitchers have allowed five grand slams in the last 12 games.
Alex Liddi hit his first major-league home run in the second, a two-run shot off Huff, who has lost his last four starts. Liddi became the first Italian-born and developed player to hit a home run in the majors since Reno Bertoia in 1961.
Charlie Furbush (4-9) survived a shaky first inning to break a five-start losing streak. Carlos Santana hit a two-run homer in the inning, his 26th of the season. That set a club record for home runs in a season by a switch-hitter.-
