Recap

Aramis Ramirez and Carlos Peña each hit a pair of home runs, lifting the Chicago Cubs to a 7-3 rout of visiting Colorado on Monday afternoon.

After Carlos Gonzalez led off the game with a home run for the Rockies, Ramirez gave the Cubs the lead for good in the bottom of the first when he launched a two-run homer to left center against Jhoulys Chacin (8-5). Peña helped break the game open with a solo homer in the fourth and a two-run shot in the fifth, giving Chicago a 6-1 cushion.

Ramirez homered to center field in the seventh to tack on another insurance run for Matt Garza (4-6), who gave up three runs on five hits in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out six without a walk.

Chacin, who had previously allowed just three runs through 26 2/3 innings this month, gave up six earned runs for the first time since a May 13, 2010 loss to Washington. He lasted five innings Monday, walking three and surrendering nine hits.

Gonzalez hit another solo homer in the eighth inning for the Rockies, his 12th of the year
