Recap
David Murphy's RBI single in the ninth inning helped the Texas Rangers escape with a 7-6 win over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon.
The Rangers squandered a 6-0 lead but completed the weekend sweep thanks to some gutsy baserunning from Craig Gentry. Brought in to pinch-run for Mitch Moreland, he stole second with two outs and came into score on Murphy's base hit to center field.
Mike Adams (1-1) earned the victory with an inning of scoreless relief. He has allowed just one run in 8 1/3 innings since coming to Texas in a deadline-day trade with the San Diego Padres.
Neftali Feliz worked a perfect ninth inning for his 23rd save.
Andrew Bailey (0-3) took the loss, Oakland's eighth straight against the Rangers.
Nelson Cruz and Yorvit Torrealba led the way with two hits apiece as the Rangers took advantage of eight walks issued by five Oakland pitchers.
Rookie Brandon Allen had three hits and scored twice in defeat for the Athletics, who fell to 4-8 in August.
