Recap

Colby Lewis outdueled Trevor Cahill, and Ian Kinsler had a pair of doubles and drove in three runs as the Texas Rangers beat the host Oakland Athletics 7-1 Saturday afternoon.

Lewis (11-8) ended a three-game winless stretch with his strongest start in seven weeks. The righthander limited the Athletics to a run on three hits while striking out eight and was rarely threatened.

Cahill (9-11) retired the first 16 Texas batters he faced before surrendering a single to Yorvit Torrealba. The Rangers catcher attempted to steal second but was called out despite replays showing that he was never tagged.

Endy Chavez kept the inning alive after Jemile Weeks botched a grounder and threw wide of first base. Chavez then came around to score the game's first run on Kinsler's double to left field.

The teams traded runs in the seventh before the Rangers broke the game open in the eighth on an Elvis Andrus' RBI double and run-scoring singles by Josh Hamilton and Michael Young. Kinsler rounded out the scoring with a two-run double in the ninth.

Cahill was charged with two runs – one earned – on seven hits over 7 1/3 frames. He has just one win in his last eight starts dating to June 25.

Weeks had three of Oakland's five hits but also finished with two of the club's four errors.
