Recap
Charlie Morton pitched eight stellar innings and Ryan Ludwick drove in a pair of runs as the Pittsburgh Pirates halted their 10-game losing streak Monday with a 5-0 road victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Garrett Jones had four hits and scored twice for Pittsburgh, which was coming off the worst homestand (0-7) in its 125-year history.
Morton (9-6) allowed six hits in notching his first win in four starts. He has tossed 15 scoreless innings over his last two outings.
Morton received all the support he needed before ever taking the mound as Neil Walker hit an RBI double and scored on Ludwick's single in the first inning. Pedro Alvarez drew a bases-loaded walk in the third before Ludwick and Brandon Wood delivered RBI singles in the fifth for a 5-0 advantage.
Ryan Vogelsong (9-2) yielded five runs over five innings en route to his first loss since May 26. The righthander had gone 6-0 in his previous 12 starts.
Starting in place of an injured Carlos Beltran, Nate Schierholtz collected three of the six hits by the Giants, who fell to 2-6 on their 10-game homestand and have lost nine of 11 overall.
