Recap
Skip Schumaker slid headfirst to beat out an infield hit and Allen Craig came home with the winning run in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 4-3 victory over the visiting San Francisco Giants on Tuesday.
Schumaker's slide capped a three-run eighth for the host Cardinals, who rallied on doubles by Jon Jay, Albert Pujols and Craig and evened this four-game series.
Former closer Ryan Franklin (1-3) got the win while Javier Lopez (2-1) took the loss. Fernando Salas earned his 10th save in as many chances.
Pujols, the NL's leading vote-getter at first base in All-Star balloting, started at third so the Cardinals could get the red-hot Jay in the lineup. It was Pujols' second start at third this season after not starting there since 2002.
Showing signs of overcoming his slow start, Pujols went 2-for-3 with a walk, lifting his average to .267 with 31 RBIs.
