Recap
Pinch hitter Casey McGehee belted a three-run homer in the seventh inning and Yovani Gallardo tossed seven strong frames as the Milwaukee Brewers salvaged the finale of their three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 3-1 home triumph Wednesday afternoon.
Milwaukee, which had lost seven of eight, was unable to solve rookie Josh Collmenter, who allowed three hits over six scoreless innings.
But after a pair of one-out singles in the seventh off Joe Paterson (0-2), McGehee batted for Mat Gamel and deposited an offering from Sam Demel over the right-center field wall for his fifth home run of the season and first since May 20.
Gallardo (10-5) yielded a lead-off homer by Kelly Johnson in the first inning and not much afterward, limiting Arizona to four hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Gallardo improved to 7-1 at home this year and 4-0 lifetime against the Diamondbacks.
John Axford struck out the side in the ninth for his 22nd save in 24 opportunities.
Brewers All-Star outfielder Ryan Braun, who owns a 22-game hitting streak, missed his fourth straight game with a strained left calf.
