Jay Bruce belted his 12th home run of the month with a three-run blast in the fourth inning on Monday as the Cincinnati Reds cruised to a 7-3 victory over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers.
The National League leader with 16 homers, Bruce also recorded his first triple of the season. He added a single and scored twice in the win.
Paul Janish had two hits, including an RBI single in the four-run fourth as the Reds took a 5-0 lead. Fred Lewis added pinch-hit RBI single in the sixth. The Reds have beaten the Brewers in six of seven outings this season.
Cincinnati starter Travis Wood (4-3) gave up three runs on seven hits in six innings for his third straight victory. Reds relievers allowed three hits in as many innings.
Carlos Gomez and pinch hitter Josh Wilson hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth to help the Brewers close the gap to 5-3. For Wilson, it was his first homer of the season. Prince Fielder had three hits for the Brewers, who are 8-18 away from home.
Milwaukee starter Chris Narveson (2-4) gave up five runs on five hits in four innings.
