Recap
Yovani Gallardo pitched six strong innings and also drove in the winning run, propelling the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-2 victory over visiting the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.
Gallardo (4-2), who went 2-for-3 and scored twice, walked three and allowed five hits while striking out five.
Marco Estrada fanned three over two perfect innings of relief before passing the ball off to John Axford, who worked the ninth for his eighth save.
The Brewers took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on Jonathan Lucroy’s home run and an RBI fielder's choice by Ryan Braun.
Ronny Cedeno tied it with a two-run homer against Gallardo in the top of the fourth, but Gallardo gave himself the lead back with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning. Braun followed with a two-run single to give Milwaukee a three-run cushion.
James McDonald (2-3) took the loss for Pittsburgh, giving up five runs on six hits in four innings.
