Recap
Scott Baker outdueled Tim Stauffer to lead the Minnesota Twins to their season-high sixth straight victory, 1-0, over the visiting San Diego Padres on Saturday.
Danny Valencia homered for the Twins, who have won 13 of 15.
Baker (5-4) continued a string of outstanding starts by Minnesota pitchers, striking out 10 and walking one while allowing four hits in eight innings. Twins starters have yielded a total of five runs in 48 innings over the last six games.
Matt Capps worked a spotless ninth for his 11th save.
Valencia, who bashed a three-run homer on Friday, came up with two out and none on Saturday and drove a 2-1 offering from Stauffer deep into the seats in left-center field for his seventh homer of the season.
Stauffer (2-5) lasted seven-plus innings, surrendering six hits and striking out six without walking a batter in the tough-luck loss. Valencia’s homer represented the only run Stauffer has allowed in his last three starts - 22 innings.
San Diego has lost four straight.
