Recap

Brad Peacock threw five scoreless innings in his first major-league start as the Washington Nationals' bullpen continued its dominance of the host New York Mets and finished off a 2-0 victory on Wednesday.

Drew Storen walked the first two batters in the ninth but earned his 37th save when Rick Ankiel made a game-ending diving catch to rob Jose Reyes of an extra-base hit that likely would have tied it at 2.

The Nationals have won four straight for the first time since July 30-Aug. 2 and pulled even with the Mets for third place in the National League East. With their 70th win, they have surpassed last season's win total and posted their most wins since going 73-89 in 2007.

New York has lost seven of eight on its homestand, which wraps up with the conclusion of the four-game series Thursday.

Michael Morse and Jayson Werth had RBI singles in the third to capitalize on Mets third baseman David Wright's error, and that was enough for Peacock (1-0) and three relievers.

Peacock, a righthander, allowed two hits and three walks over five innings. The Nationals' bullpen has worked 11 1/3 innings of scoreless relief in the first three games of the series.

Mets starter Mike Pelfrey (7-12) allowed two runs - both unearned - over seven innings and struck out six. Pelfrey has only one win in nine starts since July 27 and is winless in his last four starts.

The Mets have scored only four runs in the series.

Reyes went 1-for-5 to lower his average to .331, but still leads Milwaukee's Ryan Braun (.329) in the NL batting race.
