Recap

Light-hitting Nick Evans homered and drove in a career-high four runs and the visiting New York Mets ended a five-game losing streak with a 7-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.

David Wright also homered and drove in two runs for the Mets, who beat the Phillies for just the fifth time in 15 meetings this season. Mike Pelfrey (7-10) earned his first win since July 27 by allowing three runs and nine hits in six innings.

Bobby Parnell, making his first appearance as the Mets' closer, escaped a ninth-inning jam for his first save of the season and second of his career.

The Phillies, who are without Jimmy Rollins (groin) and Raul Ibanez (groin), were seeking their first home sweep of New York in more than two years.

The injury-ravaged Mets avoided that fate thanks to a big day from Evans, who entered hitting just .222.  Evans capped a four-run first with a three-run homer off Kyle Kendrick (7-6) – his second of the season – and added an RBI double off Michael Schwimer in the fifth, which gave the Mets a 7-3 advantage.
