Recap
Justin Turner had two doubles and two RBIs to support the strong pitching effort of southpaw Jonathon Niese as the New York Mets recorded a 3-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday at Citi Field.
Turner drove in a pair of runs with a two-out double in the sixth inning that soared over the head of center fielder Roger Bernadina. Playing third base for the injured David Wright, Turner was 2-for-4 and improved his batting average to .333 on the season.
Niese (3-4) allowed six hits and matched a season-high with seven strikeouts in seven innings.
Jason Isringhausen pitched the eighth and Francisco Rodriguez worked out of trouble in the ninth for his 13th consecutive save of the campaign.
Losing pitcher Tom Gorzelanny (2-3) allowed eight hits and five walks in 5 2/3 innings and threw a season-high 116 pitches.
