Omar Infante made a head-first slide around Wilson Ramos' tag to score the go-ahead run on Greg Dobbs' double in the 11th inning and the visiting Florida Marlins defeated the Washington Nationals 6-5 on Friday.

Infante scored from first on Dobbs' double down the right-field line against Brian Broderick (0-1). The throw to the plate beat Infante, but he managed to hook his slide around Ramos and sneak his left hand to the plate before Ramos could apply the tag.

The Nationals had a chance to win it without extra innings, but Florida lefthander Randy Choate induced a groundout from Adam LaRoche to get out of a bases-loaded jam he inherited and thwart a two-out rally in the ninth.

Florida's first five runs came via homers. Gaby Sanchez hit a two-run shot in the first and John Buck followed with a solo blast later in the inning to give the Marlins a 3-0 lead. Mike Stanton added a solo shot in the fourth and Logan Morrison, in the lineup for the first time since April 19 because of a strained left foot, connected in the eighth.

Morrison's homer gave Florida a 5-4 lead, but the Nationals tied in the eighth on Laynce Nix's RBI single. Nix was 3-for-4 with a homer, a solo shot in the fourth, and Roger Bernadina continued to produce in the leadoff spot for the Nationals, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Edward Mujica (4-1) struck out two in a scoreless 10th and Leo Nunez worked the 11th for his National League-best 13th save.

Marlins starter Chris Volstad allowed four runs on eight hits over six innings and struck out seven.

Nationals starter Tom Gorzelanny allowed four runs on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings, and yielded three of Florida's home runs.
