Recap
Adrian Beltre singled in the winning run in the top of the 10th inning and made a crucial defensive play in the bottom of the inning to lift the Texas Rangers to a 5-4 win over the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field.
Ian Kinsler, who was hitting only .143 on the road, led off the 10th with a double. Reliever Scott Proctor (1-1) got an infield out and intentionally walked Josh Hamilton. But the strategy backfired when Beltre singled into left-center field to drive in Kinsler.
Neftali Perez earned his 14th save by pitching a scoreless inning, thanks partially to a stellar stop at third base by Beltre, who knocked down a searing line drive by Dan Uggla and recovered to throw him out at first. Mark Lowe (2-1) struck out the side in the ninth and earned the win.
There was a rain delay of 2 hours and 15 minutes that began with two out in the bottom the fifth. Texas is 2-4 in extra inning games, while Atlanta is 9-7.
Texas scored two runs in the first on an RBI single by Elvis Andrus and a
fielding error on Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman. The Rangers
made it 4-0 in the third with a two-run rally highlighted by Andrus' steal of home.
The Braves cut the lead to 4-2 with a pair of runs in the third on a
fielding error by left fielder Nelson Cruz and a double by Uggla.
Atlanta drew to within a run on Brian McCann’s 11th homer in the sixth.
The Braves tied the game in the eighth when Uggla doubled in Jordan
Schafer.
