Justin Verlander continued his incredible run with seven strong innings as the Detroit Tigers salvaged the finale of their three-game interleague series against the New York Mets with a 5-2 home victory on Thursday afternoon.

Verlander (11-3), who improved to 9-0 over his last 12 starts, allowed one run and seven hits. Detroit's ace has posted a 0.79 ERA in winning each of his last seven outings.

Jose Valverde worked a scoreless ninth for his 19th save in as many opportunities.

Andy Dirks homered while Austin Jackson and Ramon Santiago added RBI singles for the Tigers, who had been outscored 30-12 over the first two games of the series.

Detroit fell behind early but rallied for three runs in the third against Mike Pelfrey (4-7) to take a 4-1 lead. Pelfrey, who yielded five runs and walked five in 4 2/3 frames, fell to 1-7 with a 6.75 ERA on the road this season.

Daniel Murphy and Carlos Beltran homered while Jose Reyes recorded his major league-leading 42nd multi-hit performance for the Mets, who had their four-game winning streak snapped.
