Recap
Lyle Overbay's tiebreaking sacrifice fly lifted the host Pittsburgh Pirates to their season-high fourth straight win, 6-2 over the struggling Detroit Tigers on Saturday night.
Down 2-0 after five innings, the Pirates rallied for three runs in the sixth off Tigers ace Max Scherzer (6-1). Three straight hits - capped by a Garrett Jones ground-rule double - brought home the first run, and Neil Walker and Overbay added run-scoring sacrifice flies to vault Pittsburgh in front.
The Pirates padded the lead with three runs in the seventh, highlighted by a Matt Diaz two-run single.
Pittsburgh starter Kevin Correia (6-4) halted a two-game losing streak and limited Detroit to two runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings. The Tigers loaded the bases with none out in the ninth, but closer Joel Hanrahan struck out Ryan Raburn and got Austin Jackson to ground into a game-ending double play to secure his 13th save.
Scherzer fell short in his quest to become the first Detroit pitcher since Vern Kennedy in 1938 to boast a 7-0 mark before June 1. The hard-throwing righthander allowed three runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings, struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Miguel Cabrera had a pair of hits and an RBI for the Tigers, who have dropped a season-high five straight games.
