Recap

Chone Figgins made a rare hit count when he tripled in two runs during the decisive fifth inning to lead the visiting Seattle Mariners to a 7-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.

Miguel Olivo got a little help from left fielder Ryan Raburn on his solo homer in the second and Justin Smoak added a solo blast for the Mariners, who matched their scoring total from the previous three games combined.

Figgins entered the game with a .160 batting average and one extra-base hit in the previous 10 games. But after Ichiro Suzuki plated the tie-breaking run with a single in the fifth, Figgins turned on a 1-1 pitch from Phil Coke (1-4) and sent it to deep center to push two more across for a 6-3 edge.

Olivo sent a line drive to left field in the second and Raburn had it bounce off the heel of his glove as he fell face first on the warning track. The ball, which would not have made the stands otherwise, bounced up and over the fence for a homer.

Felix Hernandez (3-2) worked six innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs. The reigning Cy Young winner did not get his third victory until June 3 last season.

Coke lasted just 4 1/3 innings, being touched for seven runs and eight hits.
