Recap
Delmon Young and Victor Martinez homered in a seven-run third inning, leading the Detroit Tigers to an 8-7 win over the visiting Cleveland Indians on Sunday and a sweep of their three-game series.
Detroit, which leads Cleveland by 4 1/2 games in the American League Central, almost squandered a 7-0 lead and needed a game-saving defensive play by center fielder Austin Jackson to record the final out.
The Indians scored five times in the fourth and cut the lead to 8-7 in the sixth.
Kosuke Fukudome started the ninth with a walk off Jose Valverde, who hit Jason Donald with a pitch. After Jack Hannahan's sacrifice, pinch-hitter Matt LaPorta flied out to Jackson, whose throw home got Fukudome to end the game.
Phil Coke (2-8) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for the win. Valverde recorded his 37th save in 37 chances.
The Tigers sent 12 men to the plate in the third against Ubaldo Jimenez (7-10), the Indians' key acquisition at the trade deadline. Ramon Santiago and Jackson had RBI singles. Young followed with a three-run homer and Martinez added a two-run shot.
Jimenez, who threw 47 pitches in the third, allowed eight runs in 3 1/3 innings. He's 1-1 in four starts with Cleveland.
Rick Porcello gave up five runs in 3 2/3 innings.
