Recap

Adam Lind belted a sixth-inning grand slam as the Toronto Blue Jays fended off the host Kansas City Royals 9-8 Wednesday night.

Lind's blast to center field came off Royals reliever Nate Adcock, who walked Jose Bautista intentionally to load the bases. It was the second career grand slam for Lind, who is hitting .358 for his career with the bases full.

Lind has been red-hot since returning from the 15-day disabled list over the weekend, going 6-for-18 with four home runs and 10 RBIs in five games.

The insurance runs helped make a winner out of Jays starter Carlos Villanueva (4-0), who won for the third time in four starts since taking over for the injured Jesse Litsch in the rotation. Villanueva surrendered four runs on six hits over seven innings - his longest outing since April 21, 2008 when he was a member of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Billy Butler smacked a three-run homer in the eighth inning for the Royals and Alex Gordon added a run-scoring double in the ninth to make things interesting, but Toronto's Casey Janssen induced Melky Cabrera to line out to center field to earn his first save since Aug. 21, 2009.

Kansas City starter Danny Duffy (0-2) was victimized for a season-high five runs on eight hits in four innings. The rookie lefthander walked four and struck out just one.
