Recap
Alex Cobb earned his first major league victory and Johnny Damon had three hits and an RBI as the visiting Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Los Angeles Angels 4-1 Tuesday night.
Cobb (1-0) allowed seven hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings without walking a batter. Reliever J.P. Howell struck out the final two batters of the seventh with a runner at third.
Kyle Farnsworth, who has not allowed a hit in his last five appearances, pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 12th save.
B.J. Upton belted his fourth career home run against Angels starter Dan Haren (5-4) in the third – a solo blast to left field. Casey Kotchman had his second three-hit game of season for the Rays and scored on John Jaso’s two-out, RBI single in the eighth.
Damon tripled to open the game and scored on a Ben Zobrist groundout. He later doubled home a run in the fourth. Damon is 9-for-22 since being moved to the leadoff spot in the order.
Haren threw 113 pitches in seven innings, allowing eight hits and three runs. He did not allow a base runner in his final three innings for the Angels, who have lost six of seven.
