Recap

Philip Humber returned from the disabled list with seven scoreless innings as the visiting Chicago White Sox bounced back from an embarrassing series to earn a 2-1 triumph over the Minnesota Twins in the opener of a day-night doubleheader on Monday.

Alexei Ramirez doubled in a run and Juan Pierre recorded three hits for the White Sox, who had seen their hopes for a division title dim considerably while being swept by the Detroit Tigers over the weekend. Chicago, back at .500 at 69-69, remains 8 1/2 games behind the Tigers.

Humber (9-8) had not pitched since Aug. 18 after getting hit above the right eye by a line drive. The righthander showed no ill effects on Monday, yielding six hits and no walks while striking out six to earn his first win since July 2.

Anthony Swarzak (3-6) was the tough-luck loser, scattering seven hits and two runs over eight frames.

The White Sox took the lead in the second and Ramirez made it 2-0 in the fifth, lining a double down the left field line to score Pierre from first.

Minnesota got a run in the ninth but Chris Sale came in to record the final out for his sixth save.
