Recap
Carlos Quentin's two-run double keyed a decisive fifth-inning surge as the Chicago White Sox tightened the American League Central race with a 6-3 home victory over the first-place Detroit Tigers on Monday night.
The Tigers drew first blood, getting RBI singles from Victor Martinez and Jhonny Peralta in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.
The White Sox took the lead for good with three runs in the fifth. Alexei Ramirez tied it at 2-2 with an RBI base hit before coming in to score on Quentin's ground-rule double to left field. A.J. Pierzynski and Paul Konerko tacked on solo home runs in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, for Chicago.
Mark Buehrle (8-5) worked six innings for the win, allowing two unearned runs on 10 hits. He struck out four and walked one. Relievers Jesse Crain and Chris Sale bridged the gap to Sergio Santos, who made quick work of the Tigers to finish off the ninth inning.
Duane Below (0-1) suffered the loss in his second major league start after yielding four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Miguel Cabrera hit a solo homer in the seventh inning for the Tigers. Detroit manager Jim Leyland was ejected after arguing balls and strikes in the sixth inning.
