Recap

Four pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout as the Chicago White Sox earned a 3-0 home win over Washington on Saturday afternoon, just the second loss for the Nationals in their last 14 games.

After both teams emptied their bullpens during Friday night's 14-inning marathon, the White Sox hit a speed bump early when starting pitcher John Danks left the game in the second inning with a strained right oblique.

Brian Bruney, though, stepped in and pitched 2 1/3 innings before giving way to Jake Peavy (4-1), who struck out seven and allowed just one hit over four innings in his first career relief appearance. Sergio Santos pitched a perfect ninth for his 15th save.

Carlos Quentin, who was scratched from the lineup on Friday for personal reasons, drove in the only run the White Sox would need on a sacrifice fly in the first inning, but Chicago got some insurance in the eighth when Ramon Castro hit a two-run single against Henry Rodriguez.

Washington starter Tom Gorzelanny (2-6) took the loss despite allowing just one run in seven strong innings. The Chicago area native scattered seven hits while collecting eight strikeouts.
