Recap

Two runs scored on Juan Pierre’s ninth-inning infield single as the Chicago White Sox took advantage of two ninth-inning errors to win for the 13th time in 19 games, 3-1, over the host Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday.

The speedy Pierre hit a bouncer down the first base line with runners on second and third with two outs and easily reached as Alex Rios scored from third. When first baseman Juan Rivera’s toss to first got away from pitcher Marc Rzepczynski (2-1), Gordon Beckham rounded third and scored as well.

Jesse Crain (2-1) got the final out of the eighth with two runners on base and Sergio Santos struck out two in the ninth for his eighth save as Chicago continued its three-week-long stretch of solid play.

White Sox starter Phil Humber allowed one run and six hits in 7 2/3 innings, and Blue Jays starter Brandon Morrow gave up one run and four hits in seven innings.

Rios began the decisive inning with a chopper and wound up on second after a wild throw by Toronto third baseman John McDonald. Rios advanced to third on a one-out wild pitch by Rzepczynski before scoring the go-ahead run on Pierre’s two-out single.

Pierre also drove in Chicago’s first run with a fifth-inning single that scored A.J. Pierzynski.

Toronto tied the game when Yunel Escobar led off the sixth with a homer to center field.
