Ryan Raburn’s two-run single capped a five-run inning as the Detroit Tigers rallied from five runs down for a 6-5 victory over the host Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
Max Scherzer (12-7) struck out a season-high 10 in seven innings as Detroit won its third straight game and maintained its three-game lead on Cleveland in the American League Central.
The Tigers trailed 5-1 before erupting with two outs in the sixth. Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run homer and Alex Avila contributed a run-scoring double prior to Raburn’s bouncing single to center against Jeremy Guthrie (5-16).
Phil Coke struck out two in the eighth and Jose Valverde pitched the ninth for his 35th consecutive save as the Tigers set a franchise record with their eighth consecutive victory in a one-run game.
Cabrera also drove in a run with a fourth-inning sacrifice fly.
Baltimore jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second as Vladimir Guerrero hit a two-run homer and Blake Davis delivered a three-run shot for his first major league homer.
Scherzer allowed five runs (four earned) and seven hits. Guthrie gave up six runs and eight hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Baltimore lost for the ninth time in 11 games.
