Recap
Josh Reddick hit a walk-off single to left field in the 10th inning and the Boston Red Sox rallied for a 3-2 victory over the visiting New York Yankees on Sunday.
Dustin Pedroia had a game-tying sacrifice fly in the ninth for the Red Sox, who regained sole possession of first place in the American League East with their 10th win in 12 meetings with the Yankees.
Boston rallied in the ninth against the future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera, who suffered his fifth blown save. Marco Scutaro led off the ninth with a double that scraped the top of the Green Monster and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Pedroia.
In the 10th, David Ortiz hit a one-out, ground-rule double to right field off Phil Hughes (2-4). Reddick's slicing line drive to left scored pinch-runner Darnell McDonald with the winning run.
Daniel Bard (2-5) threw a perfect 10th for the win.
Brett Gardner’s fifth homer of the season – a line drive that bounced off the top of the Red Sox bullpen in right-center – gave the Yankees a 2-1 lead in the seventh.
