Recap

Jacoby Ellsbury ripped a two-run single in the seventh inning and Josh Beckett pitched seven solid frames as the host Boston Red Sox handed the Seattle Mariners their franchise-tying 14th straight loss, 3-1 on Saturday night.

Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 20 games for Boston, which has won 16 of its last 19 overall and eight straight at home.

Boston manager Terry Francona recorded his 1,000th career victory as a major league manager, including 715 with the Red Sox.

Seattle, which last lost 14 straight in 1992, has not won since defeating the Oakland Athletics on July 5.

After two outs to open the seventh, Jason Varitek singled and Marco Scutaro sliced a double down the right-field line to put runners on second and third. Ellsbury ended the evening for rookie Blake Beavan (1-2) with the two-run single to center before he scored on a wild pitch.

Beckett (9-3) allowed one run on seven hits and struck out seven to secure his third straight win and fifth in six decisions.

Daniel Bard worked out of a bases-loaded jam to bridge the gap to Jonathan Papelbon, who retired the side in the ninth for his 23rd save of the season.

Mike Carp homered in the seventh for Seattle. He also went deep Friday, a three-run shot.
