Recap
The Chicago Cubs sent 13 men to the plate and scored eight runs in the eighth inning to rally past host Boston 9-3 on Saturday night and stop the Red Sox' seven-game winning streak.
Trailing 3-1, Chicago recorded five hits, three walks and took advantage of two Boston errors. Reed Johnson, Jeff Baker and Starlin Castro had RBI doubles in the inning.
Matt Albers (0-2) didn’t record an out and was charged with five earned runs. Sean Marshall (2-0) pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the Cubs.
David Ortiz hit a two-run homer to become the fifth player to hit 300 home runs with the Red Sox, joining Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Jim Rice and Dwight Evans. Ortiz has 358 career homers.
Chicago’s Marlon Byrd left the game after getting hit in the head by an Alfredo Aceves pitch in the second inning.
The center fielder was struck by a fastball on the left side of his head in the area of the ear flap and immediately went down on his back, then quickly got up holding his hand to his face. He walked off the field under his own power and down the stairs toward the clubhouse, and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
