Recap

The Florida Marlins scored five runs in the first inning and held on for a 7-5 victory over the New York Mets on Wednesday at Sun Life Stadium.

The Marlins used three hits and three walks to jump all over starter Jonathon Niese in the first. Niese (9-10) allowed six runs and five hits and walked six in 5 2/3 innings.

Dan Uggla had three hits for Florida, including RBI singles in the first and eighth innings. Wes Helms had a two-run double in the first and added a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The Mets cut the deficit to one at 6-5 when they loaded the bases in the eighth against Jose Veras, and they had the tying run at third and the go-ahead run at second when Leo Nunez struck out Nick Evans to end the inning.

Nunez preserved the win for rookie starter Alex Sanabia (5-3), who allowed three runs and six hits over five innings. Clay Hensley worked around Carlos Beltran's two-out triple in the ninth for his fifth save of the season.

Beltran had three hits including his fifth homer of the season, a solo shot in the fourth.
