Josh Johnson pitched eight shutout innings and Mike Stanton hit a three-run homer to lead the Florida Marlins to a 4-0 victory over the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night.
Johnson (9-3) scattered six hits and walked one while striking out eight. He lowered his earned-run average to 1.70, the best mark in the majors.
Florida scored all four of its runs in the second inning, with Stanton’s homer culminating the uprising.
Jorge Cantu and Dan Uggla started the inning with singles before Cody Ross doubled in Cantu with the first run. One out later, Stanton homered to left.
Uggla went 3-for-3 for his sixth multi-hit game during his current eight-game hitting streak.
Jose Veras pitched a perfect ninth for Florida, striking out two Dodgers.
Los Angeles starter Hiroki Kuroda (7-7) gave up four runs and six hits in seven innings.
