Donnie Murphy slugged a pinch-hit two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Florida Marlins secured a 9-8 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Monday.
Down to their final out, the Marlins rallied off closer Huston Street (1-2). With two away, Dan Uggla drew a walk before Murphy stepped up and homered for the first time this season.
The comeback came after the Rockies grabbed control with four runs in the eighth as Ian Stewart hit a solo home run and Jonathan Herrera later connected for a three-run shot to make it 8-7.
Mike Stanton had a three-run homer and Emilio Bonifacio had a pair of RBIs for Florida, which won for the third straight game. Hanley Ramirez and Jorge Cantu also had an RBI each.
Jhan Marinez (1-0) picked up the win despite allowing Herrera’s go-ahead homer.
Colorado ace Ubaldo Jimenez was denied in his bid for his league-best 16th win. The right-hander was not particularly sharp in surrendering six runs - four earned - on six hits in 5 1/3 innings of the no-decision.
Jason Giambi had two hits and a pair of RBIs and Seth Smith and Jimenez each drove in a run in the losing effort.
