Jay Bruce hit a home run in the fourth inning to lift the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Bruce snapped a 2-2 tie with a shot to deep center, his 25th of the season, off of Milwaukee starter Randy Wolf. Bruce hit two home runs in Cincinnati's 7-4 victory on Saturday and finishes with a new career high.
The Reds finished the season at 91-71 and are headed to the playoffs for the first time since 1995. It was also the first time Cincinnati had won 90 or more games in a season since 1999.
Aaron Harang started for Cincinnati and pitched just two innings, allowing two runs and three hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts. Cincinnati used seven pitchers in all Sunday with Matt Maloney (2-2) picking up the win after allowing two hits in three innings of relief.
Francisco Cordero worked around a hit in the ninth for his 40th save of the season.
Cincinnati took a 2-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by Joey Votto and an RBI single by Jonny Gomes. Corey hart had a two-run double in the third for the Brewers to tie the game.
Wolf (13-12) allowed three runs and nine hits in seven innings.
