Recap
Ricky Nolasco went seven strong innings and Dan Uggla provided all the offense as the Florida Marlins edged the Atlanta Braves 3-2 Sunday at Turner Field.
Nolasco struck out 11 and walked only one to improve his record to 8-6. He allowed two runs on six hits.
Uggla drove in all three of Florida’s runs. He started with a two-run single in the top of the first to make it 2-0 and after Eric Hinske’s sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the frame made it 2-1, the Marlins’ second baseman hit a solo home run in the fourth to restore the two-run advantage.
Brian McCann hit a solo shot of his own in the sixth to bring the Braves within 3-2, but they couldn’t tie the game up.
Atlanta had a runner in second with one out in the eighth, but Taylor Tankersley got Brian McCann to fly out to center field, intentionally walked pinch-hitter Chipper Jones and then reliever Tim Wood came on and got Melky Cabrera to ground out to shortstop.
Leo Nunez worked a perfect ninth for his 17th save of the season.
Atlanta starter Tim Hudson took the loss by allowing three runs on six hits and a walk. Hudson (8-4) struck out seven in eight innings.
