Recap
Hunter Pence blasted his 22nd home run of the year, a three-run shot, in the first inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks held on to record a 3-2 win over the Houston Astros on Sunday.
The Astros took two out of three games against Arizona in the weekend series. The Astros are now nine games above .500 since the All-Star break after a terrible start over the first half of the season.
Pence had two hits Sunday and now has 79 RBIs this season while leading the team in home runs and batting average (.289).
J.A. Happ (6-2) gave up two runs over seven innings while striking out seven to earn the win. He gave up a pair of solo home runs to Kelly Johnson and John Hester.
Brandon Lyon earned his 13th save of the year.
Rodrigez Lopez allowed three runs on six hits over six innings to take the loss. Lopez (5-13) hasn’t won a game since July 8.
