Recap
Matt Kemp’s eighth-inning home run proved to be the difference as the Los Angeles Dodgers topped the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Kemp broke a 1-1 tie by launching the two-run blast off Arizona reliever Aaron Heilman (2-3) to give Los Angeles the series victory after splitting the first two games of the set.
The homer came too late for Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley to get the win, as he pitched six innings, allowing seven hits and a walk while striking out eight.
His only blemish was a Mark Reynolds RBI triple in the fourth.
Hong-Chih Kuo (3-1) got the victory by pitching two innings of relief in which all six outs were recorded via the strikeout.
The loss spoils a good start by Diamondbacks righty Dan Haren, who also allowed only one run. He yielded six hits, two walks and struck out four over seven innings before the bullpen let the game get away.
Los Angeles tied the score in the sixth courtesy of a RBI single by Andre Ethier.
Jonathan Broxton worked a perfect ninth for his 17th save of the season.
