Recap
CC Sabathia was solid over 8 1/3 innings as the New York Yankees cruised past the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1 Tuesday night to keep pace with Tampa Bay in the American League East race.
The Yankees officially clinched a post-season berth with the victory and will either capture the AL East title or the wild-card spot. Tuesday's victory kept New York a half-game back of the division-leading Rays, who handled Baltimore 5-0.
Sabathia (21-7) overcame a dreadful showing in his last outing, charged with only a run on four hits while lasting into the ninth inning. Mariano Rivera came on with two men aboard and recorded the final two outs.
Derek Jeter led the way offensively with a pair of hits and three runs scored as New York won for just the second time in the past seven games. Alex Rodriguez added a pair of RBIs on a sac fly and a bases-loaded walk.
Kyle Drabek (0-3) was decent in defeat for Toronto, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings.
Travis Snider belted a solo homer in the third inning, his 12th of the season, to account for Toronto's only run. It was the Jays' 244th dinger of the season, equaling the franchise record set in 2000.
